Accanto a Dilthey, Rickert, Weber e Simmel, Jaspers merita un posto di rilievo nel dibattito che alla fine dell'Ottocento si sviluppa intorno allo statuto delle scienze dell'uomo. L'originalità del suo discorso epistemologico, a partire dal concetto di esistenza, gli consente di superare lo steccato che separa "normalità" e "anormalità".
