First edition printed at the Curwen Press and limited to 450 numbered copies on mould-made paper plus a further thirty deluxe copies this one of the 450 examples but un-numbered. Large 4to. 406pp. Bound in full brown buckram with two red leather spine labels lettered and bordered in gold this binding unusual as the 'correct' binding should be white vellum; the fact that this example is un-numbered may suggest that it was intended as a trial or proof copy or perhaps a file copy. Fore- and bottom edges untrimmed. A touch of very light spotting to the edges and endpapers and to very occasional leaf margins. Backstrip ends very gently rubbed. A very good copy of an uncommon and quite delightful production: a tour-de-force collaboration featuring some of the finest wood engravers of the post-Great War period each one tackling one of the fourteen books classified as apocryphal by the King James Bible. Original white three-quarter faux vellum over gray boards with gilt ruling and spine lettering. Very Good with dampstaining to foot toning to head contents generally bright and in nicer shape. In a serviceable example of the rare original jacket chipped at head 2" and tail small closed tear to top of front panel rubbed along edges toning and dampstaining to spine. Oscar Wilde's classic Gothic horror tale with full-page wood engravings by Eugene Dété from drawings by Paul Thiriat each with a tissue guard titled in crimson. Charles Carrington unknown books

Boards just a tinge warped in the same direction and the spine a tinge cocked; else lovely. The colophon reads: "This book was hand-set in 14 pt. Spectrum monotype with titling in Open Kapitalen both Van Krimpen types. Designed and set by Jason Urban and Juanita Bishop this edition was printed by Barnard Taylor and Juanita Bishop in Rives lightweight mouldmade paper with a Vandercook No. 4 press. The wood engravings were printed directly from the blocks. Each book has been hand-bound by Don Rash in cloth and paper over boards using an original abstract paste paper." This is number 35 of 125 limited copies each of which is SIGNED by Weaver and Richards on the colophon. A striking production. Light chips along the edges of the covers faint foxing to the preliminary pages and rear endpaper else leaves quite well-preserved. Overall very good. Exceedingly rare in commerce.
