This book is a documentation of this landscape and an ironic look at the perversion of Alpine culture that shapes it in the interest of commerce. 1st Edition. Original 7 1/2 X 9 1/2 Inch Wartime Photograph of the Winners of the Jitterbug Dance Contest in 1943 taken at the Jewish Progressive Club in Atlanta. Two of the Winners, Leo Cohen (middle) , and May Shapiro (right) , are identified. "The Jewish Progressive Club was established in 1913 by Russian Jews who felt unwelcome at the Standard Club that had been founded by German Jews in 1867. Its organizers set up a holding company with a capitalization of $25, 000 to invest in real estate. In 1916, they constructed on Pryor Street a clubhouse which included a hall for dances, a billiard room, and a swimming pool. It was one of the only clubs in America to express its Jewishness openly. The Jewish Progressive Club was less exclusive than the Standard Club, and also more affordable. Since membership dues were a mere three dollars per month, it was quite popular with the "Russian" Jews, who were welcomed as members. In comparison, the Standard Club a fifty dollar initiation fee and annual dues of forty two dollars. By 1924, the Jewish Progressive Clubs membership surpassed 500, and the building had to be expanded [Shankman, . 'Atlanta Jewry, 1900-1930.' American Jewish Archives Journal. Vol. 25, No. 2 (1973) ]. Wim van der Linden [1941-2001] was met zijn fotografie in begin jaren zestig een representant van een nieuwe manier van kijken die haaks stond op de gevestigde documentaire fotografie zoals die destijds gebruikelijk was. Zijn nauwelijks gepubliceerde straatbeelden uit Amsterdam, Antwerpen, Parijs, Napels en New York zijn ogenschijnlijk en passant vastgelegd, maar blijken bij nadere beschouwing zorgvuldige composities. Zijn ruige fotografie doet bij wijle denken aan het werk van de Amerikaanse fotografen Gary Winogrand en William Klein. Deze intrigerende straatbeelden zijn aangevuld met portretten uit de' kunst- en cultuurscene', waarvan hij zelf deel uitmaakte, onder wie Simon Vinkenoog, W.F. Hermans, Rudi van Dantzig, Sanne Sannes, Cherry Duyns, Rem Koolhaas, e.a. Inleiding: Guus Luijters. Later maakte Wim van der Linden met o.a. Wim T. Schippers Hoepla, de Fred Haché Show en de Barend Servet Show.
