Perderla fu come perdere mia madre.

Edizione in inglese e giapponese . 4to (cm 31x25). pp. 316. . Perfetto (Mint). . Prima edizione (First Edition). .

When We Don't See You You Don't See Us Either refers in title to the portraitist's vocation of seeing and being seen, and offers Rautert's career for the same defining scrutiny, a portrait of its own. Estratti di giornali. Fotografie a colori di Joel Sternfeld . 16mo (cm 15x22,5). pp. 112. . Perfetto (Mint). . Prima edizione (First Edition). . "Future generations are going to wonder about us, the inhabitants of the Earth when the climate began to change. If seas are rising and at the same time drinking water is scarce, they are going to want to know what scientific evidence was before us and what we did in response to it. It is difficult to imagine a time in the past without an image, so I went to Montreal in 2005 to photograph the participants in the eleventh United Nations conference on climate change." The resulting 53 color portraits of participants at the conference form the heart of this book. The mezzo busto close-ups fit within a tradition of portraiture that dates back to the Renaissance but the anxiety on each face seems like something only modernity and the advent of ecological collapse could produce. A text culled from newspapers and journals and presented in the form of wire service transmissions provides a chronology of climate change as it has occured in the past 20 years. By the title When It Changed Sternfeld may be referrring to a more hopeful turning point in the human-earth relationship.

Hardcover, 176 pages; English, 218 x 172 mm, with illustrations, Fine copy. NEW !. ISBN 9789463887519. Through this extraordinary selection of photographs and accompanying text,we follow elephants on their journey from Ancient Rome to Coney Island and beyond. Across battlefields and city bridges, in railway cars and circus rings, adored, applauded and at times brutally mistreated, elephants have truly come to town.' - James Attlee When Elephants Come to Town: A Visual Anthology is a visual celebration of man's timeless fascination with the world's largest land animal through the medium of photography. The joy and excitement elephants arouse when they make an appearance in our lives is brought to life through a combination of iconic photographs by, amongst others, Garry Winogrand and unattributed, archival material. Rather than a series of contemporary nature photographs, the book is a collection of exceptional images from around the world of elephants in captivity, dating from Victorian times to the height of circus culture in the mid-20th century, many of them taken by anonymous photographers. Elephants parade through the streets and perform tricks in circuses and shows, their riders ranging from royalty to children, from showgirls to soldiers. In times of war they assist with logistics, shifting heavy loads, ploughing fields and hauling vehicles; in peacetime they add a touch of glamour and exoticism to locations as varied as casinos, hospital courtyards and amusement parks, and are in turn transformed into elephant-shaped buildings, mechanised automatons or balloons. In the essay that accompanies the photographs, acclaimed British author James Attlee describes the broader context of that relationship through the ages. In doing so, he doesn't shy away from describing the abuse and poor living conditions captive elephants have had to endure; at the same time he evokes the depth of understanding that can exist between man and animal, often in the words of those who have experienced it first-hand. Intensely nostalgic, often poignant and always fascinating, these images capture the complexity of one of the planet's most enduring inter-species relationships.

His large luminous lightboxes entitled What we already know depict a landscape devoid of people. It is familiar, yet strangely unsettling. We see vacant car parks, anonymous buildings, or wooded areas on the fringes of suburbia; spaces we know exist yet rarely have cause to visit. They are places where our ?virtual? banking is done, or to where our telephone complaints and enquiries are directed; areas which are outside the main hub of activity. Jan 13 - Mar 4 2007.

What Is Different? is the title of this year’s edition of the Jahresring, guest-edited and designed by Wolfgang Tillmans. Since the early 2000s Tillmans has been working on truth study centre, a cycle of works concerned with absolute claims of truth in social and political contexts. Circling around contemporary issues of newly resurfaced right-wing populism, the phenomenon of fake news, and psychological findings such as the backfire effect, Tillmans, rather than analyzing the status quo, focuses on what has changed in the past ten, twenty, thirty, forty years. Why are societal consensus and institutions now under attack? Tillmans interviewed scientists, politicians, journalists, and social workers, highlighting the issues at stake from various angles. The publication also contains analytic texts and studies that shed further light on what happens in our brain, ethics, and online behavior when we are confronted with statements that oppose our political beliefs. Tillmans associated these texts with his own images as well as visual material found in print and online. While designing this year’s Jahresring, he has created photocopy works using the four-color scan process on a machine from the 1990s—an early digital collage technique that resonates with the complexity of the situation we find ourselves in today. The 64th Jahresring includes texts by Philipp Hübl, Jonas Kaplan, Joe Keohane, and Michael Seemann, and interviews with Lionel Barber, Carolin Emcke, Sigmar Gabriel, Bianca Klose, Stephan Lewandowsky, Brendan Nyhan, and Wolfgang Schäuble. — Testi: Oetker Brigitte, Keohane Joe et al.
