"Weegee appartiene a una corrente fotografica tipicamente americana: quella che racconta la realtà com'è, ma gli eccessi a cui egli arriva su questa strada denunciano la complicità dell'osservatore. Osservare una foto di Weegee significa alzare di molto la posta in gioco del contratto fotografico, sia emotivamente che moralmente. In Diane Arbus e perfino in Les Krims, che certamente gli devono molto, riconosciamo quel brivido di autocondanna che Weegee esplorò per primo".
