His New York was not the glamorous world of nightclubs and bustling sidewalks, but of the back alleys and forgotten tenements that bore witness to the city's tragedy and violence. Weegee's New York is a city wounded by the Great Depression, in the throes of unemployment and poverty, of crime, corruption, and prostitution. Taken mostly at night, and marked by the characteristically harsh, artificial light that cast telltale shadows on their subjects, these photographs of crime victims, homeless vagrants, petty thieves, and resolute policemen document the gritty reality of Weegee's world. The first news photographer permitted a police radio in his car, Weegee would race through Manhattan's streets after midnight, often beating the cops to the scene of the crime. The next morning his pictures would scream from the pages of the Daily News and the Daily Mirror. They still jump from the page today, with a restless an immediacy and intense edginess that has yet to be surpassed. The 335 photographs collected in this volume tell a story of New York during one of its most violent and exciting periods. They also tells the story of the man behind the camera, whose passion, curiosity, and humanity belie his role as uninvolved bystander. This book brings together the short stories Ara Güler penned during his early period, and his photographs. Güler is known internationally as a photographer and considered the most important representative of creative photography in Turkey, however, he is a relative unknown as a short story writer, and the various aspects of Güler the writer appear in breathtaking range in We Will Live After Babylon. This new edition of three simultaneously published volumes in Turkish, Armenian and English, brings together Güler's visual production with his texts, who appear to also take photographs through the medium of the short story, to form a "photograph-short story album". Güler thinks that his early period short stories have an important role in his ability to "capture meaningful moments and combine them in a narrative", and describes these 13 short stories as "a kind of photography". There is no doubt that Güler is a "man of the visual world" and We Will Live After Babylon is a solid proof of that.

Wayward Cognitions is a collection of photographs by Ed Templeton (born 1972), chosen from his archives spanning 20 years. For this volume, Templeton selected photographs that do not fit into his usual manner of organizing by theme or subject. In past publications he has arranged his work in straightforward groupings such as Teenage Kissers, Teenage Smokers, or photographs shot from a moving car (as in his book The Seconds Pass). In Deformer he presented the photographs under the theme of suburbia. Wayward Cognitions represents the in-between moments that arise when shooting in the streets without theme or subject. "It's about looking, people watching, finding pleasure in the visual vignettes we glimpse each day," says Templeton. When those moments are removed from the context in which they were shot, dynamic stories can be told or imagined in book form. The photographs in Wayward Cognitions were printed by Templeton in his darkroom; he then created the layout and design himself, building the book from scratch in his home studio. Come parte di un tentativo di costruire ambienti produttivi ed esteticamente validi, la natura è stata da tempo soggetta a manipolazioni umane.Illustrando una varietà di approcci (talvolta non ortodossi) all'arte della legatura degli alberi, questo libro presenta un incontro intimo con gli alberi e le loro strutture di sostegno, che sono diventate parte integrante dell'habitat umano.
