Just at the left of the "sweet spot" Anderson signs boldly in blue ballpoint. Anderson chaired the Fort Snelling Sesquicentennial Commission and spearheaded efforts to preserve and restore this site thus his signature on this cover is especially relevant. Small portion of original transmittal envelope present. A printed Department of the Army "stuffer" enclosed notes that "This envelope existing in limited edition is probably unique in postal history" for a Post Office was created in Fort Snelling for one day only solely to issue and cancel this particular stamp. unknown

Byrd's return in 1929 from his South Pole Flight; he founded the Navy School of Music in 1935 to help supply qualified musicians to the band. "Lieut Chas Beuter U.S.N / Leader U.S. Navy Band / Wash. D.C. / Regards" in bold blue fountain pen on a pale yellow 5½" X 4½" slip dated at bottom October 1929 in another hand. Very good. A small newspaper portrait of Beuter is affixed to the lower left portion not affecting writing. Interesting and unusual. Reads in part: "We were so sorry to hear of Ld. Cowper's illness & trust he is really better. It must be such an anxiety." Bold and attractive. This came from the collection of Albert Johannsen author of "The House of Beadle and Adams and Its Dime and Nickel Novels" University of Oklahoma Press 1950 the definitive reference work and bibliography on the subject. Johannsen's original 8½" X 11" file folder bearing his printed "Collection of Albert Johannsen" label partly filled in by Johannsen accompanies this item. unknown

Large bold full signature in blue fountain pen. Also present is the aforementioned printed bill 1p 7½" X 11" Washington DC 1937 January 11. Very good. Bit of minor wear and age toning along bottom edge. "S. 597" 75th Congress 1st Session being "A Bill to repeal the prohibition upon the filing of Civil War claims." Introduced by Tennessee senator Kenneth D. McKellar 1869-1957 this unusual bill sought to repeal a 1915 statute that restricted certain types of Civil War-related damage claims. Whether or not this bill passed the Senate we have not determined. unknown
