Connett 3rd was born into a family of hatmakers founded by his great-great grandfather. After graduating from Princeton with the Class of 1912 he went into the family business. After service as an officer and wartime production manager in the first world war he returned to the hat business and managed the firm until he sold it in 1925. His next career was closer to his heart as a sportman: in 1927 he established the Derrydale Press which published more than 150 titles over the next decade and a half until wartime paper shortages prompted Connett to close down the firm.<br /> <br /> An attractive vignette displaying a buxom Columbia the American Eagle flags and horn clipper ship cornucopia sword and plough and a pair of beavers. With smaller electroplate of same image mounted type high. Provenance: from the family of Eugene V. Connett 3rd and by descent unknown
