8327New York: Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute. First Edition. Original wraps. Very Good. 5X7 Inches.20 PP. Archive of EIGHT "Shooting's Fun For Everyone" booklets including the original 1957 first issue. While it may seem unfamiliar to us today the America of the 1950's included gun-wielding children in every state. Children were introduced to guns and gun ownership at a very early age. Most schools including those in New York City had pistol and rifle shooting competitions and clubs in the 1950's. Up until 1969 most New York City High Schools had a shooting club; students competed in shooting competitions and the federal government paid for rifles and ammunition. The New York City schools quietly phased out their shooting programs during the 1970s. These early comic-style brochures were marketed for sale to gun retailers as well as manufacturing companies. They were distributed as part of a national decades long campaign to entice children to gun ownership.

The first year production run of this booklet contained no blank box on the rear cover for advertisement. This was altered in coming years and many of these booklets located today are from local government offices and gun retailers as well as manufacturers.

This archive contains:

1957 VG example of this first year booklet
1958 VG / blank back
1958 VG / Winchester & Western Rifle advertisement
1958 VG / Deputy Game Protector - Tamaqua PA
1959 VG / blank back
1962 GOOD / blank back
1966 VG / blank back
1967 VG / blank back. FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHENTIC TEXT OF THIS HUNTING CLASSIC, ONE OF THE GREAT HUNTING BOOKS OF THE RENAISSANCE. It had originally been published in 1625 as "La chasse royale", but that edition was extremely inaccurate and deleted significant portions of the work. That text was reprinted in 1857 and 1858. In 1859 Chevreul published this edition, the first edition based on the original manuscript. From a total edition of 225 copies, this is one of 200 copies on fine laid paper, with the frontispiece portrait on Chine applique. 8vo. Original wraps. Wraps lightly worn, internally uncut and clean. Thiebaud 171-172; Schwerdt I, 105.
Roy. 8vo., First Edition thus, with a coloured portrait frontispiece, 3 coloured plates, 28 plates in monochrome and an illustration in the text; handsomely bound in dark red full morocco, back gilt with raised bands, gilt from original cloth board and backstrip preserved and mounted on new and separate leaves, a most attractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. With the trade ticket of Times Book Club on rear paste-down. A lovely copy of this sporting classic.
19055873London: Edward Arnold. Good with no dust jacket. 1905. First Edition. Hard Cover. Lib #'s have been cleaned off the spine leaving a dull space. Previous owner being a numb-fingered idiot has done repair work to vol. one. Has used colored "goop" to repair the top of the spine and along the outer hinges. Doesn't look bad at first inspection but why can't people leave books alone or take them to someone who knows what to do Each vol has a number written in side in nice copperplate. Vol one on the dedication page volume two on the index. Other than all that Mrs. Lincoln the books look good. The gilt on the spine is bright & unworn.; Ex-Library; 6x9" . Edward Arnold hardcover
