190716426Brisbane: Steele Rudd & Co. Ltd / Powell & Co. Printers 1907. Hardback octavo very good condition pictorial tan cloth cover lightly marked black & white plates including frontispiece with tissue guard title page little toned new endpapers pages lightly toned notably last page minor edgewear rubber bookshop stamp title page. 188 pp. An historical romance by Sydney Partrige set in rural Australia. This novel originally appeared as a serial in "Steele Rudd's Magazine". The author's name is also Sydney Partridge in some other novels and is a pseudonym for Kate Margaret Partridge 1871 - 1953 who wrote novels jointly with another writer. Contains all four plates rarely found. Review: "This is an Australian love story pure and simple. A young Queenslander falls in love with a fascinating girl from town but is jilted in favour of a titled man with money. He becomes a misogynist of the deepest dye and buries himself in a veritable wilderness called Rocky Section — miles from anywhere. One day he discovers a girl near his place who has evidently lost her way and fainted from sheer exhaustion. He takes her to his hut and revives her only to find that she has lost her memory and cannot tell where she comes from. He hates women with a bitter hatred but is on the horns of a dilemma. What happens "The way out" is most interesting but you must read it for yourself." Bookseller stamp: J. H. Lundager My Morgan. Steele Rudd & Co. Ltd / Powell & Co. (Printers) hardcover
