With 25 beautiful black and white illustrations by Bernard Partridge. A lovely near fine copy the binding square and firm the extremities slightly rubbed the spine and tops of the boards very lightly faded. The contents with just a little faint foxing to the margins of pages 42 to 52 are otherwise clean throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. A beautifully bound and illustrated collection of poetry and dramatic verse. 'Proverbs in Porcelain' was first published in 1877 without illustrations and without the addition of 'Au Revoir'. Dobson became known in the late 19th century for being at the forefront of a movement of poets who used long medieval forms of French verse to write poetry in English with George Eliot among his supporters. Dimensions of paper: 12 x 18 cm. In black ink. The coffee house with signage is shown behind an old stone wall in front of a country house. It is built like a barn with a taller structure beside it possibly a reading room. LETTER: 2pp. 12mo. Bifolium. Partridge 1858-1939 operated a Portland Ore. photography studio with his brother Edward between 1885 and 1889. This studio was apparently a western office of the Partridge Photo Co. of Boston Mass. William Partridge probably took most of the Alaska views during the summer of 1886 when he journeyed on the steam boat Ancon.The Treadwell gold mine was on the south side of Douglas Island nearly a kilometre east of downtown Douglas and southeast of downtown Juneau. Owned and operated by John Treadwell the mine was composed of four sub-sites and was at one time the largest hard rock gold mine in the world employing over 2000 people. unknown
