However Cerdan would die in a plan crash in 1949 before his rematch with LaMotta. An article about Rocky Graziano's legal problems is also featured. The cover features Joe Louis and Jersey Joe Walcott which set the stage for a return bout on June 25 1948. After a difficult first fight which many believed Walcott won Louis won by a knockout in the second bout. This issue provides a lot of information on Joe Louis including a detailed account of his ring earnings. Perhaps the significance of this contest was that it would be only the third time in history that two African Americans would fight for the heavyweight title. However boxing’s' color line was not as rigid as some other sports and by the late 1940s there had been several African American world champions. </p> The Ring Inc., books

A few years earlier Conn outboxed Louis and was on his way to winning the fight until he got careless and was knocked out in the 13th round. While this cover has sparked some modest controversy since there is no direct story about the featured boxers Gavilan and Graham are the likely fighters. They had already fought three times and would fight for a fourth time three months later in Havana Cuba. Gavilan would hold on to his welterweight title in that match. Robinson would win the fight in a stunning knockout and would fight Fullmer two more times in the early 1960s. This early issue of Ring Magazine is in nice condition. A featured article covers successful "Negro" boxers. This article looks at recent boxers including Harry Wills Tiger Flowers and Battling Siki. A historically significant article at least to boxing fans is an editorial by Nat Fleischer that talks about Tony Canzoneri's capture of the featherweight crown from Al Singer and a loss by Jimmy McLarnin at the hands of Billy Petrolle. </p> The Ring Inc.,
