Così, nell'introduzione del libro, Nino Benvenuti ricorda a cinquant'anni di distanza uno dei più grandi e attesi eventi sportivi del secolo scorso per il pubblico italiano: la notte del Madison Square Garden, in cui il pugile istriano sfidò e batté uno dei più forti pugili della sua epoca. Fu il primo di una serie di tre combattimenti che fecero epoca e dai quali Benvenuti uscì con la corona mondiale e la caratura del grandissimo campione. Nel volume, le speranze e le sensazioni della lunga vigilia, la rievocazione dei drammatici momenti della sfida, la festa del ritorno in Italia. Il testo, raccolto da Mauro Grimaldi, viene corredato dalle tavole di Spartaco Ripa, apprezzato illustratore, impegnato per anni in pubblicazioni storiche come Lancio Story, l'Intrepido e il Giornalino.
