First edition of these very scarce dealer showroom catalogues for the 1962 Oldsmobile automobiles which featured the introduction of the 2-door hardtop Starfire to join the convertible line-up just introduced in mid-1961 as well as the turbo-charged Jetfire. The “Starfire†which was introduced in mid-1961 was based on the Super 88 convertible sporting leather bucket seats a center console with floor shifter -- the first U.S. full-sized production car to feature an automatic transmission with console-mounted floor shifter. In addition it featured a high performance engine. The 1962 Jeftire was based on the compact F-85 2-door hardtop but these models were fitted with a Garrett turbocharger that relied on “Turbo Rocket Fluid†to prevent the 10.25- compression V-8 from detonating. Unfortunately many Oldsmobile drivers failed to maintain and drive the cars properly so either they had run the fluid tank dry losing turbo power or had not driven the car hard enough to generate boos and the assemblies froze over time.
