An einen nicht namentlich genannten "Herrn Doktor" über die Zusendung von "Verlaineillustrationen", "die ich alle kostenlos oder mit minimalen Spesen besorgen konnte. 1) Selbstportrait Verlaines, Handzeichnung, im Besitz Verhaerens und von ihm mir gegeben. 2) Portr. Verl. von F. A. Cazals. Hospital Broussais. Photographie nach dem Bild im Luxembourg. Reproduction frei. 3) Verlaine in Café François. Eine sehr interessante Photographie, die ich kaufte; allerdings, das Reproductionsrecht muß - wenigstens besagt es die Aufschrift - erst erworben werden. 4) Lichtdruckportrait Verlaines (nach der Photographie). 5) Abdruck des Bildes von Fantin-Latour. Ob das noch brauchbar ist? Ich werde noch beschaffen. 1) Ein Gedicht V.s in seiner Handschrift. 2) eine Zeichnung von Cazals, so wie sie im Hefte der 'Plume' sind. Mein Höchstanbot für die Reproduction wird 15 Mark sein. 3) ein Portrait von Steinlen, dem ich schreiben will [...]". Weiters ersucht er seinen Briefpartner um die Einholung einiger Reproduktionsrechte und hofft, "die Correcturen bald zu haben: ein wenig will ich ändern, einen Irrtum in der Biographie, sowie ein paar Zeilen über seinen mentalen Zustand hinzufügen. Im ganzen aber nur Kleinigkeiten [...]". - Stefan Zweig hatte 1902 eine Anthologie von Gedichten Verlaines bei Schuster & Loeffler herausgegeben, 1905 erschien dann im selben Verlag ein weiterer Verlaine-Band. - Stellenweise gering verblasst, sonst tadellos erhalten.

To the controversial Viennese publisher Fritz Freund (1879-1950), regarding a collection of Lemonnier short stories which he was anonymously translating in collaboration with Friedrich Fischl. Together with his friend Émile Verhaeren, Zweig endeavoured to promote Lemonnier's work in spite of the fact that his "Homme en amour" had just been banned throughout Germany. In full: "Lieber Herr Freund, ich war heute bei Ihnen vergeblich in Audienz, um die Lem[onnier]-Novelle zu übergeben und Sie nochmals zu warnen einen Übersetzernamen auf's Titelblatt zu setzen. Haben Sie es nötig, dass ein Herr Fischl in Wien herumgeht und sich 'Autor des Wiener Verlag's' nennt. Nein, das haben Sie nicht nötig [...]".

To the autograph dealer Charavay, asking to send him auction catalogues dating from 1914 onwards: "Il y a plus d'une année que je m'adressais a vous avec la demande de m'envoyer tous vos catalogues de vente et vos catalogues a prie fixe a partir du aout 1914 [...]". - On headed paper; centerfold slightly torn; fol. 2 somewhat wrinkled at the top.

Brown board hardcover with tan cloth spine. Title sticker on front cover. [CONDITION:] Front cover age-stained. Spine dirty. All pages lightly browning. Some pages near the front and end of the book mildly mold-stained near the binding - NO DAMAGE TO TEXT. Binding visible between pages 8-9. [SUMMARY:] Despite minor age-related damage, this rare illustrated Zweig story is in good condition.
17x12.5cm. 474 pages. Softcover. Cover slightly wrinkled and slightly rubbed. Few pages' corners slightly wrinkled. Else in good condition.
