- s.d. [1944], 21x26,7cm, une feuille. - Autograph document signed by Albert Camus: "J'en suis bien content, du moins" N. d. [1944], 21 x 26,7 cm, loose leaf An autograph document signed by Albert Camus, one leaf in black ink. Albert Camus, questioned on his work by Henri Corbière, writes three answers that are as concise as they are intriguing, revealing his sharp quick-wittedness. Suspicious of attempts to intrude into his life, whether it be private or literary, Camus points out ironies to cause a detour and avoid answering questions, one of the author's stylistic traits: "Vos débuts littéraires furent-ils heureux ou difficiles ? J'en suis bien content, du moins," "Were your literary beginnings happy or difficult? I am, at least, satisfied with it." Beneath the brief responses, the inextricable link that unites journalism and literature within Camus' writing stands out, contesting the validity of the distinction established by his interlocutor. "Des moyens d'existence [...] vous permirent-ils de vous faire un nom dans les lettres ou ne vécûtes-vous que de votre plume ? Je suis journaliste de métier," "Did the livelihoods [...] allow you to make a name for yourself in the letters or did you only make a living from your pen? I am a journalist by trade." Already the author of two literary masterpieces, L'étranger and Le Mythe de Sisyphe, Camus remains cautious when it comes to his posterity "J'ai publié trop peu de livres pour répondre à cette question," "I have published too few books to answer that question." Protecting the background of his work, Camus remains faithful to his own formula: "Il n'est pas de vraie création sans secret," "There is no true creation without a secret" (Le Mythe de Sisyphe).

Very Good Italian Original autograph concert program signed by Carlo Zecchi as 'Carlo Zecchi, 17-4-33'. 21x14,5 cm. Bilingual in Italian and Turkish. 3, [1] p., signature on cover. Program of Zecchi (as a pianist) and Nerio Brunelli (as a violoncellist) which was performed in Constantinople (Istanbul), Beyoglu in 1933 (Lunedi17 Aprile, alle ore 21,30). The program has a decorative cover with its decorative borders and has a couple of postal stamps on its second page (One is Ottoman, one is the Republican Turkey stamp). According to the program, Zecchi and Brunelli performed Mozart, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Varacini, Boccherini, Respighi, Casella, Chopin, Dunkler Brunelli, and R. Strauss. Carlo Zecchi was an Italian pianist, music teacher, and conductor. Zecchi was born in Rome. In Berlin, he studied piano with Ferruccio Busoni and Artur Schnabel. He led pianistic courses in Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome, and in Salzburg. He was a highly acclaimed performer of the works of Domenico Scarlatti, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy, and other Romantic music. Carlo Zecchi made his Italian debut in 1920, first performed abroad in 1922, and made his first tour of the USA in 1931. In 1939 he had a car accident, which obliged him to abandon work as a soloist, although he continued playing the most demanding chamber music and conducting. He played as only as of the duo partner of the cellist Enrico Mainardi. He toured America with the Florence May Festival Orchestra in 1957 and was the permanent conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra from 1964 to 1976. In his last years, two fingers on his left hand were paralyzed, yet he performed Schubert's Trout Quintet. He also taught, mostly at the S. Cecilia Academy in Rome and the Salzburg Mozarteum. Luckily several hours of Carlo Zecchi's playing were recorded, and he also made several recordings shortly before his death. His Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, and pieces from the Baroque era, such as Antonio Vivaldi-J.S. Bach Concerto, Scarlatti, and Galilei remain unparalleled. While Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli was better known and often recorded, Zecchi represents the height of pianism to emerge from Italy. (Source: Bach Cantatas).
Hardback , IX 542 p., 280 b/w ill. 19 colour ill., 220 x 280 mm, Languages: English.Studies in Medieval and Early Renaissance Art History . ISBN 9781905375677. This book provides an extensive in-depth study of the figural painting produced in Flanders during the 13th century. This is the first comprehensive and in-depth study of the earliest figural painting ever to have been produced in Flanders on a continual basis. Most of the manuscripts are Psalters, but Bibles, a Breviary, a Missal, a Netherlandic life of a saint, and yet other texts occur. Three main categories of illuminator are distinguishable: those working in Bruges, in Ghent, and, at least in part, for the circle of the counts of Flanders. The principal chapters and the catalog segments are organized around their individual contributions. An arrangement in time and place of the total body of work was obtained through a lengthy and rigorous process of comparison of figural, ornamental and writing styles, codicological and textual features. Several distinctive Flemish patterns of Psalter iconography have emerged; these are presented in tabular form with accompanying commentaries. A surprising amount of information about the early owners of the books, mostly well-to-do members of the laity, was yielded in the analysis for the manuscript catalogs.

Wishing to give a sign of Our Goodwill to His Excellency Hachim Pasa Minister of Public Instruction of Turkey. We confer on him the rank of Grand Cross of the Order of the Steula of Romania]. A good paper, one page on bifolium. Carol I, born Prince Karl of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, was the first monarch of Romania from 1866 to his death in 1914, ruling as Prince (Domnitor) from 1866 to 1881, and as King from 1881 to 1914. He was elected Prince of the Romanian United Principalities on 20 April 1866 after the overthrow of Alexandru Ioan Cuza by a palace coup d'etat. In May 1877, he proclaimed Romania an independent and sovereign nation. The defeat of the Ottoman Empire (1878) in the Russo-Turkish War secured Romanian independence, and he was proclaimed King on 26 March [O.S. 14 March] 1881. He was the first ruler of the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen dynasty, which ruled the country until the proclamation of a socialist republic in 1947. During his reign, Carol I personally led Romanian troops during the Russo-Turkish War and assumed command of the Russo/Romanian army during the siege of Plevna. The country achieved internationally recognized independence via the Treaty of Berlin, 1878 and acquired Southern Dobruja from Bulgaria in 1913. Domestic political life was organized around the rival Liberal and Conservative parties. During Carol's reign, Romania's industry and infrastructure were much improved, but the country still had an agrarian-focused economy and the situation of the peasantry failed to improve, leading to a major revolt bloodily suppressed by the authorities. He married Princess Elisabeth of Wied in Neuwied on 15 November 1869. They only had one daughter, Maria, who died at the age of three. Carol never produced a male heir, leaving his elder brother Leopold next in line to the throne. In October 1880 Leopold renounced his right of succession in favour of his son William, who in turn surrendered his claim six years later in favour of his younger brother, the future king Ferdinand. (Wikipedia). Mustafa Hasim Pasha, (1852-1920), was one of the Ottoman grand viziers of Georgian origin. He was son of Sheik Al-Islam Ahmed Muhtar, (1807-1882). He served as the President of the Court of Justice and the Undersecretariat of the Ministry of Justice. Iacob N. Lahovary was a member of the Romanian aristocracy, a general, politician and diplomat who served as the Minister of War and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Romania.
