pp. 38 (8)[Printed Register] + **Interleaved with numerous blank leaves, filled with early (1829) manuscript corrections, additions, etc. 24 mo. 135 mm. Original stiff marbled paper wraps. This is a very early Swedish Freemason's register, containing members and officers for several different lodges. It is also a handy 'Who's Who' and general directory of church and government officials, professionals, military officers, nobility, etc. in Linkoping, Sweden and the surrounding region. Corrected and updated (to 1829) in manuscript. Linkoping is an ancient city in southern middle Sweden. Its current population is over 100000. Linkoping is also the episcopal see of the Diocese of Linkoping (Church of Sweden) and is well known for its cathedral. Linkoping is the center of an old cultural region that dates back to 13th century. Nowadays, Linkoping is known for its university and its high-technology industries (including Saab aircraft engines). This little Masonic guide is extremely scarce. We can locate no other examples in any library world wide. SAFE ADD 1

Hardback, VIII 472 p., 141 b/w ill. 40 colour ill. ills., 190 x 250 mm. ISBN 9782503515106. This study deals with the work of the most prolific Dutch book illuminators, the so-called Masters of the Dark Eyes, named after the most conspicuous aspect of their style: the dark, heavily accentuated shadows round the eyes of the figures. With their elaborately illuminated manuscripts, these masters completely dominated book production in the County of Holland during the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Their work is characterized by an overwhelming wealth of decorative and pictorial richness, which is especially evident in the unusually ornate programmes of the Books of Hours, and a new type of border decoration derived from the Ghent-Bruges School. This style of painting was practised by many artists of differing talents, as demonstrated by the large number of surviving manuscripts. Not all of the illuminators worked in Holland. Some of them settled in the Southern Netherlands, others emigrated to England, where they illuminated manuscripts for members of the English court. This monograph seeks to order, analyze and evaluate the work of the Masters of the Dark Eyes, and to position their achievements within the context of book illumination in the Northern Netherlands during the 'Waning of the Middle Ages'. It explores a virtually uncharted territory of Dutch manuscript painting. The accompanying descriptive catalogue provides complementary information on more than 70 manuscripts, many of which have never been published at length before. The work is illustrated with a wide selection of colour and black-and-white reproductions. New book.

The archive includes manuscript cost calculations and numerous, partly large-scale construction drawings for the restoration work at the town hall Bülach. With his keen sense and appreciation of history, the Swiss architect Rordorf was an attentive observer of Swiss culture. As a result of the restoration work based on his designs at the town hall Bülach (around 1905) and in the Castle Greifensee (historic room conversions 1917) he drew the attention of the Swiss public to his work. Also, architectural and floor plan drawings, beautiful views (between 1876-1933) of Switzerland, including Bremgarten, Dübendorf, Effretikon, Lugano, Freiburg, New Bechburg, Thierstein, Bern-Thun, Mariastein, Aarberg, Castle Burgdorf, Kyburg, Locarno, Arbon, Brugg, Zurich, Erlach, as well as Italy, France and Germany. Documents include announcement and invitations and manuscripts of the Société "On the Wall" in Zürich, manuscript letters, poems, purchase contracts and dividing documents between David and Paul Rordorf, etc., as well as a district plan of the city of Zurich. Rordorf-Mahler was a member of the Zurich Artist Society, the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects, the Société "On the Wall" in Zurich, and at times its President. All in all, an impressive archive of original drawings and at the same time, an important primary source material for the history of architecture in Switzerland. Manuscript

[ENGLISH DESCRIPTION ON DEMAND]

Hardback, 280 p., 460 b/w ill., 210 x 300 mm, ISBN: 978-2-7177-2396-0 Languages: French . ISBN 9782717723960. At the court of Burgundy, Louis of Bruges was one of the most remarkable bibliophiles of the 15th century. The majority of his collection consists of secular volumes written in French. Copiously illustrated and in large format, the books often deal with classical history and chronicles, and form a homogeneous artistic corpus, created for the most part in Bruges by selected artists. This volume presents, for the first time, Louis of Bruges' corpus of manuscripts in a format that allows for comparisons with contemporary works. Introduced by a synthetic overview, the catalogue contains descriptions grouped by artist, supplemented by some 460 illustrations. French text.
