His diatribe was touched off by the absurdly inadequate prices that the original manuscripts of the Waverley Novels fetched at Evans' sale 19 August 1831. Dibdin's natural optimism made him prophesy that the depression in books would not last long . One hundred copies of this book printed on large paper were also issued." <br/><br/> [Wm.
