The science fiction fanzine published by the precocious Paul Williams from May 1962 this copy with the address label in no. 3 of his friend David Hartwell then a student at Williams College. As a teenager Paul woull later type the master for the first issue of Crawdaddy! on David Hartwell's typewriter and change the course of rock journalism. As literary executor of Philip K. Dick Williams played a key role in the posthumous career of the great American science fiction author while David G. Hartwell was one of the most influential editors in late-twentieth century American science fiction. Half of the work is dedicated to his fighting in the Confederacy during the American Civil War and the aftermath of the War. By Robert Hamilton Williams edited by E. W. Williams. Institutional label and bookseller's label to the front paste down. Rebound in a cloth binding. Externally generally smart with light rubbing to the cloth. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Spine and extremities of the rear board are faded. Cloth to the rear board is a little cockled. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Institutional label and bookseller's label to the front paste down. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright with some scattered spotting. The adventures of this Englishman are full of experiences and excitement. In 1852 he sailed from England bound for City Point Virginia. After living in western Virginia for a few years he left for Kansas and learned that each man at the time was a law unto himself and human life was not valued very highly. He next arrived in Texas on a cattle ranch in the heart of Comanche territory. Cattle raising and desperate fighting with Comanches occupied him for a while then came the Civil War and shortly thereafter in 1868 he returned home to England. Six Guns 2411 says "Scarce." "Deals with life during the lawless days of Kansas and Texas." Howes W473 says "After a lurid frontier apprenticeship in Kansas this young Englishman ranched in Western Texas and served with the Rangers." Herd 2528 says "Scarce." Lightly foxed along the fore-edges light offsetting to front and rear endpapers very light foxing throught and lightly rubbed at spine ends and corners else very good copy. HOWES W473. GRAFF 4686.
