The tales are told from the point of view of ten young men and women hiding in a villa outside Florence trying to escape the Black Death. It is thought that Boccaccio conceived of the idea after the 1348 epidemic.Giovanni Boccaccio was an Italian writer and poet an important figure during the Renaissance. He is best known for this influential work which provided an essential element in the literary tradition of Italy. He wrote the work between 1349 and 1352 revising the text from 1370 to 1371.Including a life of Boccaccio by Filippo Villani to Volume I.Glossary to Volume IV. In a full calf binding.
