The tales are told from the point of view of ten young men and women hiding in a villa outside Florence trying to escape the Black Death. It is thought that Boccaccio conceived of the idea after the 1348 epidemic.Giovanni Boccaccio was an Italian writer and poet an important figure during the Renaissance. He is best known for this influential work which provided an essential element in the literary tradition of Italy.
