Quarter tan leather over hardcover boards in leather entry slipcase of similar design. Top edge gilt. Minor rubbing to spine and slipcase leather and no more than a couple of minimal spots internally. Two of the five bibliographic leaves at the rear are loose. The bibliographical statement at the rear of this edition says: The copy of William Blake's Songs of Innocence from which this facsimile has been made is believed to be one of the earliest coloured and issued by the artist. The paper has been specially made with a watermark of Blake's monogram showing on each leaf. The paper is a close match to the paper used by Blake in the original copy. A lovely work. . Manuscript and typescript William Blake collection compiled by the scholar and university librarian Queen's University Belfast and Liverpool University Kenneth Povey and his Cambridge friend Basil Mackenzie. This archival collection is housed within the binding of a Blake Society imprint from 1925 The Heads of the Poets which has been cased in a bespoke turquoise buckram binding with the ownership inscription of 'B.W.F. Mackenzie London 1925' on the printed wrappers and 'Amulee' on the first blank. Basil William Sholto Mackenzie 2nd Baron Amulee was a Cambridge friend of the Blake scholar and twice university librarian Kenneth Povey whose manuscript and typescript research into Blake's Heads of the Poets fills the pocket installed by Amulee inside the lower cover. Kenneth Povey 1898-1965 published widely on eighteenth century poetry and is credited by G. E. Bentley with correcting several misattributions of Blake Heads of the Poets. This collection of his research suggests that he also assisted other scholars with their Blake researches: Kenneth Povey The Heads of the Poets continued ff 6 Manuscript article Kenneth Povey typed copy letter and four page article with manuscript corrections April 27 1926 'Dear Mr Haward I enclose a revised and much shortened version of my notes on the Heads of the Poets.'
