A publication of the Societe Archeologique et Historique de la Charente. This volume is about the ancient cemetery at Herpes near Courbillac in the Charente area Cognac region of France. In 1886 Philippe Delamain a merchant from Jarnac discovered a cemetery from the Merovingian period. Found in the excavation were an outstanding collection of weapons brooches jewellery and vases dating from the time when the Franks had settled in Herpes 5th-7th centuries AD. Delamain's collection was dispersed soon after its discovery but a significant proportion is in the British Museum. from Wikipedia This volume contains information about both the cemetery itself and about the items found there.
