Virtually none of the usual foxing only the mildest rubbing; a near fine copy. Edited by Ralph Waldo Emerson with his preface. Carlyle had this work finished in 1831 and was unable to interest a London publisher. It appeared in 1834 in `Fraser's Magazine' and the author had 50 offprints struck off for friends.
