Bound in the publisher's original blue cloth with gilt spine titling. A solid and attractive Victorian set presenting Carlyle's influential commentary and arrangement of Cromwell's correspondence still regarded as a significant contribution to Cromwell studies.</p><p>Bindings show light general shelf wear mild rubbing at spine tips and expected age toning to cloth; spines remain fully legible with strong gilt. Some bottom of spine abrasions as shown. No broken hinges. See photos for condition details. hardcovers two-volume set in original binding of beveled red cloth boards with gilt to front and spine. Exterior shows edge and corner wear/bumps and volume 2 shows some sunning to the edge of the front board. Internal binding is good no hinge issues. Decorative end pages in front and rear of both volumes contain the original owner's signature and have remnants of something that was penciled in the corner which may have been an old bookstore price. The owner signature also appears on some of the other end pages as well. Both volumes are in German and are undated ca 1890.
