Scarce work. With a portrait frontispiece and vignette to the title page. The collected twenty-four short stories of the Canterbury Tales. Written in Middle English between 1387 and 1400 the tales are mostly told in verse presented as a story-telling contest between a group of pilgrims as they travel from London to Canterbury. Written by Geoffrey Chaucer an English poet author and civil servant considered the "father of English literature" for this work. With illustrative notes by Thomas Wright an English antiquarian and writer remembered as an editor of medieval texts. In the original orange cloth wraps. Externally sound with rubbing to the extremities and the odd small crease to the board tips. Light discolouration to the cloth with the odd mark. Internally firmly bound.
