2007ABE-2452253758London Books 2007 First edition first impression of this great thriller by the undeservedly neglected James Curtis. This intensely vernacular novel deserves to be up there with those of his contemporaries Graham Greene and Christopher Isherwood. Curtis like so many with his middle class upbringing embraced leftist politics in the 30s and he began writing novels about criminals prostitutes and boxers almost as an attempt to understand or justify the underworld of crime. After the 1930s he disappeared and today is one of literatures neglected but very worthwhile authors. These novels are hugely expensive in their original first editions and this attractive new issue is a welcome chance to read this man again. Additionally this has a worthwhile introduction from Paul Willetts that places this superb novel into context. Protected jacket unread looking book utterly collectable if you can't afford the 1930s original! Language: eng Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng. 1st Edition.
