Egelhoff 532 U.S. 141 2001 is a major decision of the Supreme Court of the United States on federalism specifically with regards to the preemption powers of federal law over state laws. It sets the precedent that any state statutes having a "connection with" ERISA plans are superseded by ERISA or any future substantially similar law that takes its place. In essence this decision is a reaffirmation of the right and ability of the federal government to at least in some instances pre-empt state laws. unknown

In 1852 his father bought a summer home near Covington, Kentucky which they called Holmesdale. The young Holmes spent his summers in Kentucky and his winters in New Orleans. As a young man Holmes moved to Holmesdale and took up the practice of law, in what William S. Ward called, "a desultory fashion." As a poet he took "old tags of nursery rhymes and fashioned out of them some of the tenderest lyrics ever written" - Mosher. Bishop 422.2 PRESS/W39

1897ABE-5386826436Smith Elder & Co. London 1897 VERY SCARCE especially in such a wonderful binding. An important and uncommon Sir Arthur Conan Doyle book and for many collectors an essential part of their collection. Looking for a replacement to Sherlock Holmes after the author had killed him off in 1894 Doyle wrote this murder mystery in the dying years of the 19th century. Set in Napoleons era it involves a Frenchman returning to his native land to join the Emperors ranks. Elegantly rebound in navy leather quarter binding with gold titling to the spine five raised bands and hand marbled boards. Modern rebind is by Bristol Bookbinding and this is an heirloom quality first edition for the serious Conan Doyle collector.
