It marked the start of the Gutenberg Revolution and the age of printed books in the West. The Seminary locked the Bible in a vault for security reasons and only placed it on view under guard on a small number of occasions. The seminary's Gutenberg Bible acquired in 1898 was notable for being the first incomplete copy restored to completeness after a forged leaf was replaced with an authentic one in 1953.With the bookplate of the General Theological Seminary Library to the pastedowns. In cloth bindings. Externally excellent. Boards lightly age toned to perimeters. Shelf wear to back strip tail with bumps to back strip heads. Library labels to front and rear pastedowns.
