It was being used in various science fiction-movies among these Stanley Cubric's A Space Odyssey."The AT&T picturephone offered full motion a monochrome picture and about half the resolution of a conventional TV image. It worked over three phone lines and though fairly costly was somewhat affordable. The TD-3 was the replacement of the highly successful TD-2 system.The TD-2 was the backbone of all transcontinental television broadcasting and long distance telephone traffic before satellite transmission was made possible. By 1962 the TD-2 was carrying more than 80000 miles of intercity television circuits and approximately 35000000 miles of telephone circuits representing more than 90 per cent of all intercity video and 40 per cent of all long distance telephone circuits' mileage. It had however several shortcomings: It had maintenance problems required a multi voltage power source and the noise performance were considered only marginally satisfactory. Later plain green cloth. = A rarely seen complete volume of one of the leading zoological series in the 19th century and one of the very few published on this large format. It includes a tile contents leaf and ten papers and an index. Among the papers included is Aitchingson's Zoology of the Afghan Delimination Commission with fine plates of reptiles and other wildlife including two fine bird plates by Keulemans. Four papers deal with Lepidoptera one is important for Indian Ocean carcinology. Stamp of a former Dutch East Indies natural history society on the title page and first text leaf top margin. All imprints are ficticious: the present volume was published -- and probably compiled -- by Thomas Johnson ca. 1677-1735 a Scotsman who was active as a bookseller in The Hague from 1701 to 1728; he then went to Rotterdam where he was active until his death. With Alexander Cunningham Johnson was the most significant agent of the Scottish Dutch book trade at that time. Johnson created and exploited Anglo-Dutch communications and retail networks and in doing so became one of the foremost publishers in The Netherlands during the Enlightenment Scottish or otherwise. <br /> <br /> "Johnson was probably born in 1677 in Edinburgh and he arrived in the United Provinces around 1700. It is not known what motivated him to move and there is no indication that he intended to become a bookseller. He was probably simply attracted by the significant Scottish presence in the United Provinces their economic successes and the tolerant Dutch climate. Soon after his arrival he established himself as a bookseller in The Hague after a brief cooperation with the French publisher Jonas l'Honore." A beautiful production of the Dutch-born American concrete poet designer book artist and teacher based on cut-out pages of the alphabet. Thomas Ockerse is a design professor at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence RI. From 1967 to 1971 when he was an assistant professor of graphic design at Indiana University Ockerse began to radically rethink education the practice of design and the world of art. He strove to erase conventional boundaries and to merge the arts and in so doing worked towards creating design that could be experienced both for practical and inspirational purposes. His deep involvement at that time with concrete poetry Fluxus mail art happenings book arts and other intermedia arts led to the creation of what Ockerse termed ‘word and image equations’. unknown

It was designed by Bell Labs in Columbus Ohio to replace traditional cord switchboards. Research at Bell Systems was aimed at finding ways to reduce operator labor which at that time was was the largest expenditure when operating a telephone network. "A new cordless operator position was designed to illustrate how this operator service might be implemented. Trials at New York Telephone Co. demonstrated the feasibility of both the customer dialing of the prefix and the efficiency of the new operator's position. After the trial a development was started to add such positions by then known as the "Traffic Service Position" . It was an example of the electronic art forcing out the old electromechanical art with many vested interest. The collection of trunks a ferreed switching network an SPC and the positions formed a system called the "Traffic Service Position System". Being the first it was called the "No. 1 TSPS".
