1906009892John G. Myers Co Albany NY 1906. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Size: Octavo standard book size. Text body is clean and free from previous owner annotation underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight. Cover title: John G. Myers Co. Christmas Greeting Christmas 1906. Color illustrated side stapled wraps illustrated title page with tagline "Santa Claus Always Has Loads of Toys and A Gift for Every Good Girl and Boy at Myers" pages are not numbered 29 pages illustrated in black and white. An illustrated collection of stories and poems for children at Christmas. Some stories are Christmas related others winter related others are just stories and rhymes about subjects children are interested in. Covers moderately soiled corners and spine ends bumped with a little wear where worn along spine vertical crease on back cover date Dec. 25th 1906 written inside front cover. This is a book for children obviously handed out by the Myers department store in Albany New York at Christmas time. The back cover has a color drawing of the John G. Myers Company building. Some of the illustrations are quite delightful including one titled "Santa Claus and His Body-Guard" showing Santa leading a column of hundreds of children with a small child perched on the shoulder. Another titled "Santa in Trouble" shows Santa looking in dismay at his overturned sleigh presents strewn in the snow as the reindeer run away across a field. Also incuded is a now very politically incorrect poem about Happy Go Lucky "as black as a crow" about a black child who knows "where the speckled trout hide". From the Greeting: "More than anything else in the world children are delighted with pictures and picture books. We try to make our Sunday School Greeting a book which a child will treasure up and often read. To all mothers and friends of children we offer our winsome work for wee boys and girls in the hope that they will derive from it as much real pleasure as we've had in preparing it for their enjoyment."
