Based on the 1890 story by Ambrose Bierce. 22 pages of storyboards corresponding with the script that follows all bound together. Decorative cast and crew invite to premiere and wrap party laid in. <br /> <br /> The second filmed version of Bierce's short story the first one titled "The Bridge" was made by Charles Vidor in 1929 virtually unknown preceding both the well known 1959 version filmed for the fifth season of Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone" and the French version made in 1962 by Robert Enrico. <br /> <br /> According to the 1956-57 Film Review of Student Productions presented by Department of Cinema and Delta Kappa Alpha at the University of Southern California USC the film was part of the Productions of the Graduate Workshop in the fall of 1956. Laid in is an invitation to premiere screening held at CineManor where USC's California National Honorary Cinema Fraternity Delta Kappa Alpha hosted screenings and social events. Douglas W. Gallez served as President of the Alpha USC Chapter at the time. Not in IMDB. <br /> <br /> Presumably shot in Southern California. Ulmer's 1934 Karloff-Lugosi film of the same name nor does it bear much relation to the Edgar Allan Poe story though in fairness neither did the 1934 version. It is more of a horror-comedy affair than its predecessor with Broderick Crawford and Hugh Herbert in the lead Bela Lugosi reappearing now in the more minor role of "Eduardo" and Basil Rathbone ably handling the part of the shady Mr. Hartley. Shot by the legendary Stanley Cortez of "Magnificent Ambersons" fame. Irving Pichel's "Earthbound" finds Nick Desborough Warner Baxter called away from his honeymoon with Ellen Andrea Leeds for business in Paris only to find his ex-mistress Linda Reynolds Lynn Bari sent the telegram. Linda rejected by Nick shoots and kills him and her husband Jeff Henry Wilcoxon is arrested and tried for the crime. Nick's ghost helps guide Ellen to clear Jeff and convict Linda so he can rest in peace.<br/><br/>Set in Paris and Switzerland. <br/><br/>Blue titled wrappers noted as FINAL on the front wrapper rubber-stamped copy No. 33 and production No. 1884 dated January 12 1940.
