One of the more cunning and unusual children's books of the early 1900's this mammoth book was expertly produced with strong linen hinges and all the pages printed onto very thick cardboard leaves. With such mechanical limitations to overcome the publishers succeeded in producing a monumentally pleasing work with brightly colored illustrations in the form of full-page color images half-page colored line drawings and head and tailpieces initials and embellishments throughout by Constance Irving. The book is seldom seen in its original wrapper. I do not see any objection to the terms there-in but UI would prefer to wait until the outcome of the Walm's deal with Hirsch is settled before I sign it. At the moment I am entirely on the hope that the option will expire on December 23rd with the play unproduced but I cannot lose sight of the fact that Hirsch may be able to promote a production". When Langley came out of the Canadian military following World War II he went to England and worked on several screenplays with luke-warm success. He became a United States citizen in 1961 and soon thereafter worked part-time as a drug counselor in California. Boldly signed and in excellent condition. From the archives of Samuel French & Son's.<br/><br/> LANGLEY Noel - 1911 - 1970 South African playwright best remembered as the 26 year old writer of the screenplay for the 1939 classic film The Wizard of Oz - and is one of the three credited screenwriters of the film. Langley literally ditched half of Frank Baum's book and added such important original concepts as the Ruby Red Slippers; instead of two good witches he amalgamated the Good Witch of the North with Glinda into one character. In Baum's book Dorothy encounters many threats to her safety - but in the screenplay Langley turned the wicked witch of the West into Dorothy's sole adversary. Most important he introduced to the story the inclusion of the actors playing the Tin Man Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion as farmhands and family in the sepia-tone Kansas sequence as well as introducing Miss Almira Gulch the Wicked Witch's counterpart. By doing this Langley created the continuity that bridged the characters as "real" people in Kansas to their roles in the Land of Oz; something that Baum could never perceive.<br/><br/> unknown books

A discussion on the mythology and influence of celestial bodies. A French writer Pluche 1688-1761 was a classical professor at Reims before taking Holy Orders and becoming director of the college at Clarement. His opinions forced him to leave the college and he settled in France where he made his reputation with his popular work "Spectacle de al Nature" 1732 in nine volumes. It was translated into 9 languages and was popular in England. The present work was first issued in 1735. This Catholic apologist offers a extended discussion of Newtonianism and the conformity of modern science to the teachings of Genesis. "In his Histoire Pluche restated his opposition to the cosmologies proposed by the physicists-whom he termed `romans philosophiques'-- and sought to display the excellence of the physics of Moses which supposedly conforms to the teachings of both `history and experimental physics. With a handwritten label to the front wrapper noting the production title "Coward in Two Keys" written in holograph ink on a piece of masking tape that has been placed over the original title "A Song at Twilight." <br/><br/>Laid in with the script are five photographs of actors Anne Baxter Thom Christopher Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy as well as a small handwritten note regarding the play's billing.<br/><br/>Two plays from legendary playwright Noel Coward's 1966 "Suite in Three Keys" trilogy which were staged at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on February 28 1974. In "Come Into the Garden Maud" an American millionaire seeks freedom from his controlling wife while in "A Song at Twilight" an aging writer is forced out of the closet by his former mistress.<br/><br/>The trilogy which included the play "Shadows of the Evening" was originally staged at the Queen's Theatre in London in 1966 and was the penultimate production Coward would write for the stage.<br/><br/>Set in Switzerland.<br/><br/>Blue titled Studio Duplicating Service wrappers.
