Maria Beadnell the first love of the young Charles Dickens during the years 1830-1833 her father prevented the match became the model for Dora in DAVID COPPERFIELD; in 1855 she contacted him and they secretly met without their spouses but Dickens surprised at how much she had changed subsequently based the less-than-flattering Flora Finching of LITTLE DORRIT upon her. Folio two volumes bound in full buckram with morocco spine labels lettered in gilt containing 31 engraved portraits 30 engraved remarque plates 78 illustrations in the text and 67 'Additional Illustrations'. In very good condition. Frederick Kitton was one of the founders of the Dickens Fellowship and organized a celebrated exhibition of his works in 1903. His library was purchased from his widow by subscription with the aim of establishing a national Dickens library. It was transferred to Dickens House in Doughty street in 1926. Frank T.
