A comparison of Jewish and Christian practices by Abbé Claude Fleury a leading early 18th century French cleric and the confessor to Louis XV. The vast majority of Fleury's section on Judaism deals with biblical Israel with a brief discussion at the end as to how post biblical Judaism degenerated into Pharisees Sadducees and Essenes before moving on to Christianity which Fleury saw as the true heir to the biblical religion. His understanding of Judaism came largely from the Bible Josephus Church fathers such as Origen Tertullian and Clement of Alexandria and Johannes Buxtorf the Elder. Text in French. Stamp from previous owner. Significant wear to cover. Some foxing to page edges. Binding in overall fair to good- interior in good to good condition. Blue leatherette binding with gilt front cover decoration of an eagle perched upon the name of Napoleon. The spine has been inexpertly repaired with masking tape as well as the front inner hinge. All page edges are gilted. Minor browning to outer edge of margins and paper is somewhat brittle but not chipped. Heliotypes by E. Le Heley. Published at 73 Rue Claude Bernard 73 in Paris with no publisher listed. No date of publication which is circa 1900.
