The Bible Society of Philadelphia founded in 1808 with Bp. William White as its first president was the first Bible society organized in the United States. It published this the first stereotype Bible printed in the U.S. from plates imported from London; the B.F.B.S. contributed £500 towards the purchase of the plates and they were admitted to the U.S. free of import duties. The initial run produced 1050 copies of the complete Bible and 750 copies of the New Testament in double columns in very small type.<br>Â Â Â Â Provenance: Signature of Edward H. 1972133021San Diego CA: Legend Films 1972. Draft British script for the 1973 film. <br/><br/>Alec Guinness plays here against type imbuing his Adolf Hitler with an introverted solemnity. Set almost entirely inside Hitler's Berlin bunker the film chronicles the dying days of the Third Reich as the Allied armies close in on Berlin. Guinness' Hitler is an enclosed depressive who sinks slowly into madness depression and ultimately suicide as his 1000-Year Reich collapses around him. <br/><br/>A co-production between Italy and the UK made by Ennio De Concini better known for his many exploitation films of the 1970s. <br/><br/>Blue titled wrappers with a die-cut title window in the British style. Title page present dated 10th July 1972 with credits for screenwriter-director De Concini screenwriters Fusco and Reinhardt and English adaptation writer Moffat. 128 leaves roneograph on eye-rest green stock. 1957142883Paris: Cinedis 1957. Collection of 14 vintage photographs and color transparencies from the 1957 French-Italian film. Nearly all photographs are contact sheets with 34 color transparencies 24 are medium-format and 5 are mounted. Starring actors Fernandel and Gray comprise most of the collection and the contact sheets consist of candid images of Fernandel director Boyer noted director Christian-Jacques and Fernandel in various accouterments surrounded by female members of the cast. Only a few contact sheets have less than 12 numbered frames amounted to 146 images. Striking images of both Gray and Patrick are scattered throughout the transparencies. <br/><br/>Fernandel stars as a talentless actor who fails to find work and turns to imitating people he sees on the street a stunt that lands him in court where he finally has a chance to showcase his acting ability. Fernandel was France's leading funny man for decades and Gray would go on to her best-known role in Federico Fellini's masterpiece "La Dolce Vita" 1960. Liliane Patrick's debut film later credits include "Maxime" 1958 "Julie the Redhead" 1959 and "A fleur de peau" 1962. <br/><br/>Transparencies housed in original glassine and paper envelopes four with annotations in holograph ink. Two slips of paper one on Cinedis parchment noting various photo sizes and quantities in holograph ink and in French are included. Brief notation in holograph pencil on the verso of the 5 x 7 photograph. All housed in original French Kodak photo box French title label affixed to the lid with annotations in holograph ink. <br/><br/>Sizes range from 2.25 x 4.75 to 7 x 9.25 inches. Very Good plus overall photos with light curling some with faint creases several contact sheets with bruises to one edge and light staining and wrinkling to mounted transparencies. Draft script for a 1973 Roderick Cook adaptation of the 1929 Noel Coward musical likely written after Cook's 1972 musical review of Coward's work entitled "Oh Coward!" <br/><br/>A three act operetta in which a wealthy young woman elopes with her music teacher. Coward's original script was basis for the 1933 film directed by Herbert Wilcox and the 1940 film directed by WS Van Dyke. The Van Dyke film was so disliked by Coward that he vowed to never let Hollywood adapt one of his works again. <br/><br/>Adaptation writer/actor Roderick Cook worked extensively with Coward's material his best-known work being a highly well-received 1972 musical review of Coward's work entitled "Oh Coward!" While it is believed that Cook's adaptation of "Bitter Sweet" was never performed professionally and the material in this script was not utilized in "Oh Coward!" it was likely written after Cook's considerable success with the review encouraged him to take another look at Coward's oeuvre. <br/><br/>Set in London and Vienna. <br/><br/>Pink titled wrappers with credits for playwright Noel Coward and adaptation writer Roderick Cook. Moderate wear and tear consistent with use with annotations scattered throughout some tape marks from absent inserts corners turned etc. Good. A large format rehearsal script for the 1971- 1973 roadshow revival of Shaw's dramatic piece a free standing scene from Act 3 of MAN AND SUPERMAN. The production was directed by John Housman and starred Ricardo Montalban Paul Henreid Agnes Moorehead and Edward Mulhare. This copy bears the ownership and address stamp of Paul Henreid who played the role of the Statue in the performances in Boston Chicago Los Angeles and New York in the latter as the "Commander". Throughout this script the lines for the Statue have been highlighted and annotated with prompts and revisions presumably for or by Henreid. Henried born Paul Georg Julius Freiherr von Hernreid Ritter von Wasel-Waldingau 1908- 1992 had a long and active career on stage and in film and television as both actor and director. He is most widely recognized for his role as Victor Laszlo in CASABLANCA 1942. unknown books

A preproduction script for this adaptation for NBC's radio series "Great Plays" scheduled for production on Sunday 9 March 1941. The series first aired on NBC Blue in Spring of 1938 and was until its suspension in 1942 one of its most prestigious undertakings. This production was included in its fourth season. The specific cast for the broadcast is not included in this script and presumably drew upon the substantial stable of performers the show engaged for its season. Ms. Henry played one of three "phantoms" in the play who do not speak but who are generally present. Starring actors including Marais and Vlady are seen in lavish period costumes designed for the film by Marie-Claude Fouquet and Jacqueline Guyot. Housed in a light blue mailing envelope with annotations on the recto in holograph ink noting contact information for Fouquet and Guyot. <br/><br/>Based de La Fayette's 1678 anonymously published novel France's first historical novel widely regarded as an early psychological novel. The Princess Vlady marries a much older prince Marais but yearns for a handsome duke Poron. Her fidelity eventually coming into question. Marais also starred in Delannoy's and Cocteau's other collaboration "Love Eternal" 1943. <br/><br/>Two transparencies 3.25 x 4.5 inches one slightly larger. The Phinney brothers Henry and Elihu carried on the business their father Elihu Phinney had started in 1795; the elder Phinney had established a press bookshop and newspaper after resettling in Cooperstown from Connecticut. James Fenimore Cooper a delegate to the 1816 convention that formed the American Bible Society learned to set type in his shop for fun Hills 69. The younger Phinneys however were not to be restricted to one shop: They sold their stock which consisted of their own publications together with books brought in from Philadelphia and New York from large travelling wagons and established a "bookboat" on the Erie Canal that enabled them to reach a larger portion of western New York.<br>Â Â Â Â This edition has the Apocrypha added and 11 woodcut plates in total; the New Testament has a separate title-page. An early American printing of a great many through the remainder of the 19th century based on the London edition of 1853. An extensive treatment of basic mechanical drawing is followed by directions for the more refined skills of shading perspective etc. The plates detail all manner of geometric mechanical and architectural renderings to assist the draughtsman in his work. 1972CNFBV03New York: E. P. Dutton and Company Inc 1972. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/very good. Oblong quarto 40 pp. Caldecott Medal winner. Based on a story by Patrick Lafcadio Hearn 1850-1904;born in Greece raised in Ireland at the age of 19 he emigrated to the United States spending time in Cincinnati and New Orleans. He eventually traveled for work newspaper reporting to the West Indies and thence to Japan where he found his true home. He married Setsuko Koizumi who was from a Samurai family; they had four children and Hearn fully immersed himself into Japanese culture. He and his wife would travel around Japan gathering the old folk tales which he translated; they were immediately popular and would eventually delight generations. This tale is of a "funny little woman" who goes chasing after a runaway dumpling laughing all the way only to find herself cooking with a magic paddle for the wicked "oni" that live underground. Illustrated by Blair Lent 1930-2009 who is probably best known for his Asian folklore inspired work; this volume was the winner of the 1973 Caldecott Medal.<br/><br/>___DESCRIPTION: Original green cloth with a dark-green illustration to the upper board title stamped in dark-green to backstrip illustrated title page fully illustrated throughout in colour; oblong quarto size 9.25" by 9.75" 40 unnumbered pp. first edition. Some soiling discolorations and fraying to wrappers internally very good. A three act theatrical script associated with the premiere production of this comedy. The script for Act II bears the signature of Joseph Allenton who played the lead and the denotation "Original." Those for acts one and three are stamped "Latest Corrected Copy." The play opened at the Lyceum on 19 September 1910 and closed after 48 performances. One of the scripts is dated "10/20/10" in the corner of the upper wrapper and there are a few corrections and annotations in the texts. Prominent theatrical producer Charles Frohman who was lost on the Lusitania in 1915 while demonstrating exemplary courage produced the play. This was a quite early writing credit for Unger 1885-1940 who had an active career spanning three-decades as screenwriter and playwright. Charles Frohman unknown books
