Lady Wantage is best known as the founder of the British National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded in War - which later became the British Red Cross. She received the Royal Red Cross medal together with Florence Nightingale at the first award ceremony in 1883. Included with the book is a letter presenting the book to Lady Wantage dated 1910.
