Hardcover. Written in English and some Portuguese. Bound in gray and burgundy two-toned publisher's cloth with an illustration on the cover. Red lettering on the spine. Endpapers are patterned in burgundy and white. Red and black lettered title page. Frontispiece is a black and white plate depicting a statue of Joao Rodrigues Cabrilho in San Diego. The statue was offered to the State of California By the Government of Portugal and is the work of Alvaro de Bree from 1937. Illustrated occasionally throughout with black and white photos and artifacts on glossy paper inserts and two-toned maps. Contains a list of illustrations. Endpaper reads "Published by order of the Agencia Geral do Ultramar this edition is limited to 1000 copies. It was printed under the technical direction of Luis Raul Nunes by Paulino Ferreira Filhos Lda. Printers in Lisboa in the month of April MCMLVII. 60 pp. Protected by a mylar cover. This copy comes from the library of previous owner Terry Ruscin author of “Mission Memoirs: A Collection of Photographs Sketches & Reflections of California’s Past.” His circular ex-libre mark is blindstamped on the front flyleaf; leaves are very lightly toned around the edges else fine. File copy rubber-stamped on the front wrapper. <br /> <br /> Based on Weidman's 1937 novel and Vera Caspary's loose adaptation. Harriet Boyd Hayward is a fashion designer who partners with Teddy Dailey whom she loves and Sam Jaffe and starts a new business dedicated to selling affordable women's dresses.
