Beckett… Geniale, pazzoide, poeta, terribile semplificatore, solitario bevitore, cantore del male, sperimentatore infaticabile, nichilista assoluto… ma aveva anche dei difetti. Tra i vari Nobel per la letteratura Samuel Beckett è stato sicuramente uno dei più discussi e affascinanti. Di sicuro nessun altro alla notizia di aver vinto il Nobel, avrà commentato: "Che catastrofe!". Questo libro si presenta come un compendio di critica letteraria e sociologica, che presenta diversi materiali e prospettive di analisi ruotanti intorno Samuel Beckett. Analizzando i contributi più significativi, originali o illuminanti della critica internazionale si tenta di ricostruire l'approdo di questo pazzo d'irlandese nella nostra cultura; seguendo tra scossoni, scandali e boicottaggi il sedimentarsi del suo esempio artistico. Si cercherà di capire in cosa consiste la sua importanza per la nostra letteratura. Le tappe di questo incontro/scontro ci permettono di fare il punto sulla sua ricezione in Italia.
