19357180Minneapolis 1935. 7 typewritten pages with manuscript edits and 6 holograph pages recto only in pencil in Wandrei's hand. Light edge wear and a few smudges to the typed pages few corner bends and edge chips to the handwritten pages but generally very good. <br /> <br /> An interesting manuscript from Donald Wandrei of the Weird Tales Circle being an unfinished screenplay based on his story "The Monster from Nowhere." The tale was first published in Munsey's Argosy November 23 1935 and later was collected in The Eye and the Finger published by Arhkam House in 1944. <br /> <br /> <br /> This script consists of about a dozen scenes mostly detailing the shots scenery and characters with a bit of dialogue and lines for a narrator. The manuscript pages are quite descriptive especially in detailing the nightmarish scene where a dead body floats down the road propelled by an unseen force. This theme of existential horror and the blurring of real and unreal are typical of the Weird Tales genre and it is a shame this screenplay was neither finished nor produced. <br /> <br /> We find manuscript material from Wandrei to be quite scarce. An excellent item from the Lovecraft circle. . unknown

The soldiers are forced to endure systematic torture and abuse and finally accused convicted and executed as war criminals. This film brought opposition from the Department of Defense fearing strong reactions from the Japanese. <br /> <br /> Set in Japan shot on location in Washington DC. <br /> <br /> Beige titled wrappers noted as SECOND REVISED FINAL on the front wrapper rubber-stamped copy No. 229 and production No. 936 dated OCT. 14 1943. 17411352First edition of Mazzuchelli's biography of the infamous poet Pietro Aretino 1492-1556 known as the 'scourge of princes'. Aretino's satirical sonnets and burlesques were so feared by the nobles and princes of his day that they appear to have handed out large sums of money to buy his silence. This so-called patronage funded a notoriously profligate lifestyle and his home in Venice where he went having been banished from his home town of Arezzo on the publication of his sonnet against indulgences became the scene of continuous revelling and orgies.<br /> The preface pp. iii-viii is supplied by A.F. Seghezzi. Giuseppe Bartoli's letter to Mazzuchelli on the subject of the present work praising the latter for his 'erudizione si ammirabile' is also included pp. 263-267. The text is also accompanied by extensive bibliographical footnotes and a thirty-one page index. <i><br /></i><br /><i><br /></i><i>8vo engraved portrait frontispiece and pp. viii 303 1 colophon 4 advertisements in contemporary glazed cream paper boards front joint cracking headcap chipped some other light wear and stains yellow labels on spine lettered in gilt the lower one ruled in ink.</i><br /><br />Brunet III 1563. The maps colors are very fresh and the maps only have some faint foxing if at all while the B&W engravings vary as to foxing – the busts of emperors more so the full illustrations less. Upper text block slightly darkened. Foxing throughout sporadic with owner's name in ink on some half title pages otherwise very tight solid copies uniformly aged.
