We start out with an alphabet with two examples and brief verse for each letter then we go on to counting then days of the week then months and finish off with some natural history. Peppered throughout the book are Mother Goose rhymes. The book is illustrated in two-color plus line art printed with blue ink and there is a color frontis depicting Little Red Riding Hood. Original spine laid down else a fine copy.<br /><br />The art historian Conte Leopoldo Cicognara 1767-1834 wrote on aesthetics French and Italian art mainly visual and art and archaeology of antiquity. He also compiled this catalogue of his own collection the working and reference library of a scholar who could afford to buy whatever books he needed. It was primarily a library of classical studies and of Italian and French art and aesthetics from the Renaissance through the 18th century. Cicognara's library was acquired by Pope Leo XII in 1824 and is today part of the Vatican Library. There are 4800 numbered entries with frequent descriptive annotations. Topics include: treatises on painting ancient and modern theatrical architecture perspective treatises on beauty Etruscan antiquities Italian antiquities before Rome numismatics inscriptions and many others.
