Lovely and sought-after adaptation of Perrault's fairy tale freely translated by the author to facilitate reading aloud and the earliest of Brown's illustrated books to win the Caldecott Medal. Brown a graduate of the New York State College for Teachers later SUNY Albany worked as a high school teacher and children's librarian for several years while writing and illustrating; her early work from that time included CINDERELLA and her classic retelling of STONE SOUP. Brown's art for this midcentury CINDERELLA exemplifies the light colorful flowing style characteristic of her 1950s work. A beautiful copy. 10'' x 8''. Original pink cloth stamped in black.
