Rare ouvrage révolutionnaire de colportage. Il comporte une première page d’alphabets en lettres romaines et italiques et les voyelles, consonnes et cédille au revers. Suivent seize leçons progressives de syllabes et de mots séparés en syllabes. À la suite, Déclaration des droits et des devoirs de l’homme et du citoyen, également séparée en syllabes. Pierre Seyer, imprimeur de la Société des amis de la Constitution et de la Société des amis de la Liberté et de l’Egalité était ouvertement prorévolutionnaire. Il avait épousé la veuve de J. F. Behourt en 1763 et repris son fonds, en grande partie constitué de la Bibliothèque bleue de Rouen. Il travailla en association avec son beau-fils, Pierre-Louis Behourt, de 1787 à 1805 environ. Jean Théodore (Strasbourg 1561-1623 Francfort), graveur, dessinateur et éditeur, travailla, en association avec son frère, Jean Israël (1565-1609), dans l’imprimerie familiale de Strasbourg fondée par leur père, Théodore de Bry (Liège 1528-1598 Francfort), dessinateur, graveur et éditeur protestant. Remarquable suite de vingt-quatre planches, finement gravées sur cuivre, figurant vingt-quatre lettres richement ornées inspirées de la Bible : Adam, Caïn, David, Goliath, Holopherne, Judith, Luc, Moïse, Noé, Pierre, Roboam, Salomon, Thomas, Vrias, Xhristus, etc. Les personnages représentant l’occurrence sont agrémentés de fruits, animaux, objets et angelots. En regard, le texte en latin et allemand avec lettrines ornées. Seconde émission avec le texte en allemand. Merveilleux recueil et bel exemplaire dans une élégante reliure en plein maroquin de Trautz-Bauzonnet, conçue vers 1860, avec quelques très minimes frottements d’usage. Provenances : Bibliothèque d’Edmond Foulc (1826-1916), avec son ex-libris, remarquable collectionneur d’art et de recueils d’estampes d’architecture et d’ornements. Un second ex-libris, sous forme de carré magique, révèle le nom de Jules Riollot, ingénieur spécialiste de l’étude de ces carrés. [Calligrafia] (cm.19,7x29,5) oblungo ottima mezza pergamena XIX sec. Tavole 10 incise in rame e numerate, frontis compreso, racchiuso entro elegante fregio architettonico con 4 uccelli agli angoli. L'opera, contiene raffinati alfabeti riccamente ornati. rarissimo, manca a Marzoli-Morison, Jenssen, Guilmard e Berlin-Katalog. Il nostro esemplare corrisponde esattamente a quello descritto da Bonacini e Choix. Berlin-katalog n°4853 e Bonacini 1769 hanno un esemplare con una parte di 14 tavole e una di 10, da non confondere con la nostra edizione che ha titolo diverso, è a se stante e ben completa.
