Appended to this book are a list of Biblical sites whose location in modern Palestine was not yet determined, and a list of Roman and Greek names (in Latin letters) for sites, which differ considerably from the Hebrew and Arabic names. He studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and taught there from 1950 on, becoming professor of Semitic linguistics and biblical philology in 1967. He was also director of the lexicographical institute and biblical research institute of Bar-Ilan University. In 1988 he was awarded the Israel Prize in Jewish studies(EJ) .
