Together with Shavuot and Sukkot, Passover was one of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals (Shalosh Regalim) during which the entire population of the kingdom of Judah made a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem. Samaritans still make this pilgrimage to Mount Gerizim, but only men participate in public worship. Nissim [or Nisim] Behar was a Rabi. Behar, whose family moved from Bursa to Istanbul Hasköy when he was very young, was sent to the Alyans School here. The family moved from Hasköy to Kuledibi in 1923. Growing up in a religious family Nisim's mother was a family known for their religiousness in Silivri, and they even got the name "Sofu" when the surname law was enacted. Titles translate to Beit Talmud: Released Monthly, Beit Eked: Collection of Articles and Poems, and The Hebrew Woman: Laws of Women related to family and society in the Times of the Holy Writings and the Talmud. A variety of Saul Hurtwitz works. Hurtwitz (18611922), Hebrew writer and critic, was born in Russia. He was a successful merchant and banker who, after losing his fortune in the Communist Revolution, moved to Berlin. It was there that he rose to prominence in the circle of émigré Hebrew writers and thinkers and was active in Zionist work. Together with H.N. Bialik he directed the Kelal publishing house. From his youth, Hurwitz contributed stories and articles to Hebrew journals, and in 1892 he published the literary magazine Beit Eked. (Jewish Virtual Library, 2018). Title translates as A Hebrew Grammar: An Instructive Guide to the Holy Language for Jewish Schools and Homes. Hertz was born in Rebrin, Czechoslovakia, (or Lastomir, Hungary) in 5617 [1847] and he studied for three years under Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer in Eisenstadt (or Berlin ) . He immigrated to America in 1884 and devoted the rest of his life to Jewish education. Hertz published poetry and linguistics and Biblical studies. He died in the Bronx in 1913. His son was Joseph H. Hertz, the chief rabbi of the British Empire and the editor of the "Hertz Chumash. " "An instructive guide to the Holy Language for Jewish Schools and Homes. Written in a most interesting and attractive style, with ample rules and explanations concerning Rashi script and the reading of unpunctuated Hebrew in English and Jewish-German.
