Foxing/dustsoiling to top of textblock. 1 corner bumped. ; Professor Winnington-Ingram's reputation as an authority on Greek drama is based on a lifetime's careful scholarship. In 1980 the Press published Professor Winnington-Ingram's book on Sophocles and in 1983 he followed it up with some studies on Aeschylus. This book explores the problems in Aeschylus' earlier plays: Persae, Septem contra Thebas and the Daniad trilogy. There is also an emphasis on different aspects of the Oresteia and finally, an examination of the peculiar problems in Prometheus Bound. A view of Aeschylean tragedy emerges - and of the poet's contribution to the development of Greek religious thought. Students of Greek drama will welcome this collection. Greek in the body of the text is translated, so that the book will be accessible to those studying Greek literature in translation and the literature and drama of other cultures. ; Beiträge Zur Altertumskunde. 1928055980Constantinople Istanbul: Typescript - Apoyevmatini 1928. No Binding. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Original typescript letter with autograph signature and a commercial seal. 27 x 21 cm. In French. 16 lines. A rare and historically interesting typescript letter signed by Vasileiadis editor of the Greek-language minority newspaper Apoyevmatini published in Istanbul addressed to the Electric Company. In this letter Vasileiadis voices a formal complaint regarding the discriminatory exclusion of Apoyevmatini from a discounted electricity rate campaign extended to other members of the press highlighting the unequal treatment of minority publications despite their longstanding contributions to the city's journalistic and cultural landscape. Apoyevmatini was originally founded through a partnership between Konstantinos Vasileiadis who held the publishing license and Odysseas Krystalidis the owner of the printing facilities and an experienced figure in newspaper distribution. The first editor-in-chief Kavalieros Markouizos served until 1927. He introduced the newspaper's enduring motto a quote from Victor Hugo: "New epochs bring new missions." This phrase aptly captured the spirit of the era reflecting the profound transition faced by the Greek community in the wake of the Ottoman Empire's dissolution and the rise of the newly established Republic of Turkey. In 1927 Grigorios Giaveridis succeeded Markouizos as editor-in-chief a position he held until his death on 1 August 1979.

Typescript - Apoyevmatini unknown

Unwrapped in plastic. ; Mnemosyne , Vol Suppl. 145; 487 pages; This work surveys available evidence on Athenian settlements and settlers of the fourth century BC, calling several conventional interpretations about them into question, through a rigorous preference for evidence over speculation. Three chapters trace a chronology of events relating to the settlements, examining their personnel collectively, statistically and individually, and discussing evidence for their political, economic and religious institutions. Long appendices establish improved texts of numerous inscriptions relevant to the topic and provide several kinds of data on more than 1000 definite, probable or possible settlers. This text is intended to be of use to students of Attic political institutions, epigraphy and prosopography, and of fourth-century-BC Greek history.
