Wear at head and foot of spine. This is the scarce 1st American edition of this work. First French was Les Étrangleurs by Adolphe Belot Paris 1879 . The work bears the stamp of the Atlantic City NJ stationer J. Henry Wlsieffer who sold the book in 1880 or so. It was made into an English language movie in 1913. In attempting to prove Blanchard's innocence Guerin's daughter Jeanne and her sweetheart Robert succeed in convincing Mathilde that her father is involved. Lorenz angered by her denunciation tries to strangle Mathilde but the escaped Jagon appears to save her life.
