187096353Circa 1870s. 1870s. Good. - A slip of cream paper approximately 1-3/8 inches high by 2-3/4 inches wide has been signed within a decorative pink frame "Faithfully Yours / W. Morley Punshon." The slip has been mounted on a slightly larger piece of pink paper partially framed in black. There is some glue staining to the slip of paper & the mount and the mount is slightly unevenly cut. Good. <p>William Morley Punshon 1824-1881 was an English Nonconformist Minister. In 1868 he went to Chicago as the representative of the Wesleyan Methodist conference then settled in Canada. During his five years in Canada he did much to advance the cause of his denomination. His preaching and lecturing drew huge crowds both in Canada and the United States. He returned to England in 1873 and was elected president of conference in 1874. An indication of the power of his preaching was the collections raised after his sermons. One of his sermons at the City Road chapel in 1873 raised S2079. Circa [1870s]. unknown
