Prima edizione pubblicata nel Primo Centenario del Club Alpino Italiano di questa importante e attesa guida alpinistica e sciistica del maggiore massiccio delle Alpi. L’opera fu dapprima curata da Renato Chabod Lorenzo Grivel e Silvio Saglio “tre anziani†cui si aggiunse per il secondo volume Gino Buscaini dopo la morte di Saglio; gli autori si avvalsero di una lista di collaboratori d’eccezione: Carlo Passerin d’Entrèves per le note di storia e folklore e Ercole Martina per quelle di geologia poi Walter Bonatti Franco Garda Toni Gobbi Piero Nava Albin ed Edouard Pennard Massimo Mila Livia Bertolini Magni Aimé Chenal e molti altri. La guida inizialmente progettata in tre volumi si fermò al secondo tralasciando i gruppi interamente estranei ai confini nazionali quali le Aiguilles de Chamonix e l’Aiguille Verte; la prima parte della guida espone notizie oro-geologiche storiche e su vie d’accesso e rifugi seguono la corposa trattazione alpinistica Volume I: Géant-Rochefort Jorasses Leschaux-Talèfre Triolet-Dolent; Volume II: Glaciers - Trélatête Milage - Bionnassay - Goûter Monte Bianco Brouillard - Innominata resta di Peutérey Maudit - Tour Ronde Mont Blanc du Tacul e le note sciistiche in fine.
