The work brought him global attention. In 1685 he was chosen to join a group of orators to go to the regions of France with the highest number of Huguenots to try and persuade them about the errors of Protestantism. Later in his life Fenelon became the Archbishop of Cambrai during which time he wrote a series of anti-Jansenist works. He was also acting as the spiritual director for Madame de Maintenon despite being confined to his archdiocese. Some of Fenelon religious writings include 'Refutation du systeme de Malebranche sur la nature et sur la grace' 'Treatise on the Existence of God' and 'The Royal Way of the Cross'. The works were collected and put in order by Abbot Felix Dupanloup. Dupanloup was an ecclesiastic who was one of the French Liberal Catholicism.
