1836634P47Paris: Chez Denaix 1836. Paperback. Good. 5.5" by 3.5". None. A collection of writings by Francois Fenelon here complied by Abbot Felix Dupanloup written in the original French held in the publisher's original decorative binding. Complete in six volumes. In the original French. These volumes contain all the works written by Francois Fenelon relating to Christianity. Fenelon was a Roman Catholic archbishop and writer who became a royal tutor in 1689 to Louis XIV eldest son. His first work 'Traite de l'education des filles' was written whilst he was working as the director of a Parisian community for young Huguenot girls who were joining the Church of Rome. The work brought him global attention. In 1685 he was chosen to join a group of orators to go to the regions of France with the highest number of Huguenots to try and persuade them about the errors of Protestantism. Later in his life Fenelon became the Archbishop of Cambrai during which time he wrote a series of anti-Jansenist works. He was also acting as the spiritual director for Madame de Maintenon despite being confined to his archdiocese. Some of Fenelon religious writings include 'Refutation du systeme de Malebranche sur la nature et sur la grace' 'Treatise on the Existence of God' and 'The Royal Way of the Cross'. The works were collected and put in order by Abbot Felix Dupanloup. Dupanloup was an ecclesiastic who was one of the French Liberal Catholicism. He was a prominent and eloquent figure in France during his life with crowds of people attending his addresses making a great impression on them. In the original publisher's decorative paper wraps.
